PURPOSE:
To consider the creation of three positions and related operating expenses in the District Attorney's Office to staff newly created Juvenile Court division; and
To consider the creation of two positions and related expenses in the Public Defender's Office for Juvenile Court; and
To approve the addition to the fleet of one law enforcement vehicle in the District Attorney's Office for a Juvenile Court Investigator; and
Authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute any necessary documents.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Board of Commissioners, on February 27, 2018, approved the expansion of Juvenile Court with the creation of an additional Judge's division. The expansion necessitates appropriate staffing by both the District Attorney and Public Defender, beginning August 25, 2018. The District Attorney will require an Attorney IV, an Investigator, and a Victim Advocate. D.A. personal services costs for the remainder of 2018 will be $123,594, with $12,050 in necessary operating expenses, and $22,000 for a law enforcement sedan to be added in the Vehicle Replacement Plan. Total increase required in the D.A's 2018 Operating Budget is $157,644.
The Public Defender's required staffing for the new division is an Attorney III and a Social Worker. Total personal services for the remainder of 2018 are $67,223. Total necessary operating supplies costs are $10,540, for a total increase required in the Public Defender's 2018 Operating Budget of $77,773.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$157,644 for District Attorney and $77,773 for Public Defender
