PURPOSE:
The DeKalb County Solicitor-General’s Office respectfully requests approval from the Board of Commissioners to utilize $52,000 from the Office’s existing FY-26 Budget to upgrade the replacement of four aging, high-mileage fleet vehicles currently planned for replacement with four Chevrolet Equinoxes. Rather than replacing the four vehicles with the originally planned Equinox models, the Office is requesting three (3) Chevrolet Traverses and one (1) Chevrolet Tahoe.

NEED/IMPACT:
The requested vehicles will provide significant operational and safety benefits over the smaller Chevrolet Equinox vehicles proposed by Fleet Management. The Office's Investigators routinely transport evidence, investigative equipment, training materials, and other operational supplies while conducting investigations throughout DeKalb County. Larger vehicles provide increased cargo capacity, improved functionality, and greater flexibility for these law enforcement responsibilities.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The Fleet Division has allocated $31,558 per replacement vehicle (Chevy Equinox). The cost of a Chevrolet Traverse is $39,400, and the Chevrolet Tahoe is $59,700. Allowing the Solicitor-General’s Office to use existing FY-26 funds in the amount of $52,000 to cover the difference will provide larger vehicles that better meet operational needs without requiring additional funding in the FY-27 budget. This represents a cost-effective use of existing resources while avoiding an additional burden on the County’s future budget.
