PURPOSE:

To accept the benefits, terms and conditions of the 2019 SAFER Grant from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security. The grant is to be used for increasing the number of firefighters to help communities meet industry minimum standards to provide adequate protection from fire and fire related hazard.  The amount of the award is $5,839,110.00.  A county match is not required.

The proposed period of performance will be from 3/10/2021 to 3/9/2024.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

 SAFER grant provides the salary and benefits for 30 firefighters for three years.  The grant will enable Fire Rescue to increase staffing to meet or maintain industry staffing minimums.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No Grant Funds Match

Recommended Action

Adopt the ordinance and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
