PURPOSE:
Fire Rescue is seeking approval to use grant funding obtained from the FY 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program grant from the Office of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA);
DeKalb County was granted $823,961.00 from BJA; Fire Rescue’s funding allocation ($248,000) from the U.S. Department of Justice will be utilized to increase its mobile decontamination capabilities.
NEED/IMPACT:
The United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), allocated funding to DeKalb County, Georgia to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus/COVID-19. The DeKalb County’s FY 2020 CESF team includes: The District Attorney’s Office, the Fire Department, the Police Department, the Public Defender’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Office. Fire Rescue’s Mobile decontamination unit will enhance the county’s ability to protect public safety frontline employees, as well as minimize the downtime required for potentially exposed Fire Rescue personnel by resupplying PPE and performing decontamination activities.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Project cost $248,000. All grant funding. No cost to the county.
