PURPOSE:

To adopt a resolution designating the area located at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30032 as an urban redevelopment area pursuant to the Urban Redevelopment Law.

NEED/IMPACT:

The Urban Redevelopment Law (OCGA Section 36-61-1 et seq.) authorizes the Governing Authority to designate certain areas within DeKalb County as an “urban redevelopment area” which the Governing Authority designates as appropriate for an “urban redevelopment project” pursuant to the Urban Redevelopment Law  After careful study and investigation, the County staff recommends that the Governing Authority designate the area located at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30032 (as more specifically described in Exhibit A of the attached resolution) as an urban redevelopment area pursuant to the Urban Redevelopment Law.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact to the County of designating the area located at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30032 as an urban redevelopment area - however, the Urban Redevelopment Agency of DeKalb County is expected to issue its revenue bonds at a later date to finance the cost of acquiring such property - which property is currently leased by the County from a private party.

RECOMMENDATION:
