SUBJECT:

Title

Commission District(s): District 2

Appropriation of $34,900 of District 2 Sidewalk Capital Funds for Crosswalk Striping

Body

Information Contact: Commissioner Michelle Long Spears

Phone Number: 404-371-2863

PURPOSE:

To appropriate $34,900 from DeKalb County District 2 Sidewalk Capital Fund into a capital account for Laurel Ridge Subdivision Striping for use by DeKalb Public Works Transportation Division.

NEED/IMPACT:

Clearly marked crossings will significantly improve pedestrian safety, especially for children walking to Laurel Ridge Elementary and nearby bus stops, while also calming traffic in a residential area with frequent vehicle and foot traffic. Fresh striping increases driver awareness, reduces speeding, and directs pedestrians to safe crossing points, lowering the risk of accidents. In addition, investing in visible, ADA-compliant crosswalks supports the County’s commitment to accessibility, equity, and walkable communities, while enhancing residents’ quality of life and fostering a safer neighborhood environment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Decrease appropriations to District 2 Sidewalk Capital Fund by $34,900. Increase appropriations to a capital account for Laurel Ridge Subdivision Crosswalk Striping by $34,900.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the appropriation of $34,900 from the 2025 District 2 Sidewalk Capital Fund to a capital account for Laurel Ridge Subdivision crosswalk striping and authorize the chief executive officer or her designee to execute all necessary documents.
