PURPOSE:
To consider approving a contract with the City of Lithonia in the amount of $204,000 to complete a new sidewalk construction project spanning 1,492 linear feet (.28 mile) within the City of Lithonia.
NEED/IMPACT:
This initiative aims to enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity in this underserved area. The proposed CDBG request from the City of Lithonia is for a portion of the "Sidewalk Network" the City is planning.
1. The request is to construct 942 LF of sidewalk on Parkway Drive from Main Street to Park Drive. This sidewalk will be constructed within the existing city owned rights-of-way and will be 5 feet wide and 4 inches thick.
New ADA Ramps will be constructed at Church Street (2), Park Drive (2) and the existing ADA Ramp at Main Street will be modified. Five driveways will be adjusted/modified to meet longitudinal and lateral ADA Slope requirements. Sections of existing walls will be modified to accommodate the sidewalk within City rights-of-way.
2. The request is to construct 550 LF of sidewalk on Park Drive from Lithonia Middle School to the southern end of 2515 Park Drive. This sidewalk will be constructed within existing city owned property and will be 5 foot wide and 4 inches thick. New ADA Ramps will be constructed at Brenda Lee Lane.
This will provide a safer path for students and the public that are coming from Lithonia Middle School walking through the community.
