A Resolution to Update the DeKalb County Traffic Calming Program
Body
Information Contact: Commissioner Edward C. “Ted” Terry
Phone Number: 404-371-4909
PURPOSE:
This proposed resolution approves that the DeKalb County Administration, through the Transportation and Law Department, perform a study to update the DeKalb County traffic calming program to include more effective, technological, and environmentally friendly options for reducing speeding in neighborhoods.
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County has a traffic calming program that allows residents to petition for traffic calming measures on residential streets that has been successful in reducing vehicle speeds and improving safety on over 200+ streets in the county. The DeKalb County Government recognizes that there is a need to update the program to include more effective and environmentally friendly options for reducing speeding in neighborhoods.
The current funding levels for traffic calming improvements do not fully pay for the maintenance of the citizen-requested infrastructure over the long term and the current maintenance fund levels are on a downward trajectory. This resolution supports the continued efforts of the DeKalb County Department of Transportation to improve safety on our roads and promote sustainable transportation options for our County.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Fiscal impact is not known at this time.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents to authorize the Transportation and Law Departments to perform a study to update the DeKalb County Traffic Calming Program.
