PURPOSE:
To allocate $20,000 to Wild Bird Nest Rehab, Inc. to Support the Helpline Public Assistance Project
NEED/IMPACT:
This allocation benefits DeKalb County by strengthening a free, community-facing service that helps residents respond appropriately when they encounter injured or distressed birds, improving animal welfare outcomes while reducing confusion, delays, and unnecessary strain on local resources. By funding real-time response technology, reliable phone and text systems, and seasonal staffing, the project ensures DeKalb residents receive fast, accurate guidance during peak wildlife activity periods, which shortens decision-making time and increases the likelihood of successful interventions. The enhanced reporting and data collection will also provide clearer insight into community needs and service impact within the county, supporting more informed planning and outreach. Overall, this investment expands access to assistance across DeKalb County, improves public service efficiency, and contributes to a healthier local ecosystem while controlling long-term service cost.

An amount not to exceed $20,000 from the 2026 District 2 Reserve for Appropriation (00202.579002.100.0000.0000)
