PURPOSE:

To consider accepting the Year 2022 award of $143,125 from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States, and to compensate Justice Benefits, Inc. (JBI) in the amount of $21,468.75 from the proceeds of the award.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The U.S. Department of Justice, through the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), has awarded $143,125 to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States.

 

JBI does the research, gathers and analyzes the data, and completes all necessary information to be included in the application.  The information is then returned to the Sheriff’s Office for Federal submission via the Internet through the Justice Department’s Grant Management System (GMS).

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Accept the Year 2022 award of $143,125 from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States, and to compensate Justice Benefits, Inc., in the amount of $21,468.75, from the proceeds of the award.  Appropriate $143,125 to the Grant Fund.  To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
