PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person by sending a written notice to the commission,” CEO Thurmond is nominating Cynthia Dunn for appointment to the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees. Ms. Dunn will be filling the unexpired term of Ms. Valerie Boyd. This is a four-year term which begins upon confirmation and continues through December 31, 2024.
NEED/IMPACT:
The operation of the DeKalb County Public Library is legally vested in the Board of Trustees under the provision of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Title 20, Chapter 5, Article 40. Per the Constitution and By-Laws of the DeKalb County Public Library eight (8) county appointees from the public at-large serve on the Board of Trustees along with two municipal appointees, the CEO and the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Appointees typically serve four (4) year terms and can be reappointed for a total of three (3) consecutive terms.
Ms. Dunn is a resident of Clarkston and currently works for the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Area Agency on Aging. Before joining ARC, she worked more than fifteen years with the Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Aging Services. She holds a MS in Gerontology from the University of Massachusetts and a BA in Political Science from Northwestern University. Ms. Dunn is an active member of the Friends of the Clarkston Library.
