PURPOSE:
CHaRM will serve as a convenient drop-off location for hard to recycle materials, including but not limited to tires, mattresses, paint, and electronics that will encourage recycling throughout DeKalb County and provide savings to the Sanitation, Beautification and Code Enforcement departments. It will also provide volunteer, internship, and job opportunities for youth in the sustainability field. In addition, the County will enter a no-cost lease for county-owned property at 1225 Columbia Drive to serve as a drop-off location for hard to recycle materials.
NEED/IMPACT:
To appropriate $150,000 from the non‐departmental general fund as part of the mid‐year budget to fund this project.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$150,000 from the non‐departmental general fund account.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
Appropriate $150,000 from the non-departmental general fund to fund the Live Thrive, Inc. recycling project and construction and maintenance of the CHaRM facility at 1225 Columbia Drive; authorize the County to enter a no-cost lease for 1225 Columbia Drive for the South DeKalb Healthy Living (CHaRM) facility; and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all the necessary documents and contracts for the completion of the project.
