PURPOSE:
The Board of Commissioners wishes to establish an advisory committee to work collaboratively and cooperatively with various department heads and the administration to explore and make recommendations related to affordable housing within the County.
NEED/IMPACT:
A house is not just a house, it is a home - a place that shelters, protects, and nurtures. It offers a safe space for the people inside to thrive and supports their personal and professional development. Affordable housing is not a handout. It's a hand up. It gives people the ability to reimagine their future without the high cost of rent.
Throughout DeKalb County, Georgia, and the United Sates, the need for affordable housing is apparent. The cost to rent or purchase housing has become less affordable and now, for some, unobtainable.
This Resolution will support the county's Affordable Housing Task Force in gaining a deeper understanding of the affordable housing challenges in DeKalb County, study and provide input and suggestions, as legally appropriate, assess and review new affordable housing strategies and incentives, review the County's current policies and procedures as related to of affordable housing, review the County's Land Development Regulations as they relate to the provision of affordable and workforce housing, and other policy goals as forwarded by the committee.
