PURPOSE:

To approve the attached resolution adopting a contextualization statement for the cannon previously removed from the Decatur Courthouse Square.

NEED/IMPACT:

In 2021, the Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to move the cannon from the Decatur Courthouse Square. The cannon had been placed on the Decatur Square in 1906 by the Agnes Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The cannon was removed on October 19, 2021. This resolution authorizes a contextualization statement that will be placed on an agreed upon place between the Governing Authority of DeKalb County, the City of Decatur, and the DeKalb History Center.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Appropriation of $5,000 from the 2024 District 2 Reserve for Appropriation Funding for the marker.
