Appropriation of $50,000 from the District 2 American Rescue Plan Funding to the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve for Stormwater Management Projects
Body
Information Contact: Commissioner Michelle Long Spears
Phone Number: 404-371-2863
PURPOSE:
To appropriate $50,000 from the District 2 American Rescue Plan Funding to the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve for Stormwater Management Projects.
NEED/IMPACT:
The “beaver” pond at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve plays an important role in mitigating the impacts of stormwater runoff into South Peachtree Creek by retaining stormwater. However, because the depth of the pond is limited, the capacity of the pond to retain stormwater is limited. The proposed project would increase the capacity of the pond to retain stormwater by dredging the pond and removing the sediment from the site. Dredging of the pond requires the pond to be dry. Typically, the pond is dry between June and September, but this depends on spring and summer rainfall. Permitting will be completed by October 2024. Weather-permitting, dredging and sediment removal will be completed by September 2025. If the pond does not dry sufficiently during the summer of 2025, dredging and sediment removal will take place between June and September 2026.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An amount not to exceed $50,000.00 from the District 2 ARP POETA 105744.63258.521209.01.02.602479
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the appropriation of $50,000 from the District 2 American Rescue Plan funding to the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve for Stormwater Management Projects and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
