PURPOSE:
The Purpose of This Agenda Item is to provide funding for DeKalb Pro Bono Programming.
NEED/IMPACT:
Supporting DeKalb Pro Bono is a meaningful investment in the stability and wellbeing of DeKalb County residents, as the organization provides free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals who would otherwise have no access to representation in matters that directly affect their housing, safety, family stability, and financial security. Since 1982, DeKalb Pro Bono has assisted more than 12,000 residents, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to equitable access to justice. Strengthening this work helps reduce court backlogs, prevents homelessness through timely legal intervention, supports survivors of domestic violence, and promotes fair and efficient resolution of civil disputes. A contribution from DeKalb County directly enhances community resilience, reduces downstream social service costs, and ensures that vulnerable residents can navigate complex legal systems with dignity and support.
