Phone Number: 404.298.4020
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this agenda item is to consider the approval of precinct boundary changes as set forth in the attachments hereto. Under Section 9(7) of the Organizational Act and O.C.G.A. § 21-2-262(d), the Governing Authority must approve precinct boundary changes.
NEED/IMPACT:
Twenty-three changes are proposed to align precinct boundaries with municipal annexations and revised district boundaries following 2022 redistricting by the General Assembly. These realignments alleviate the potential privacy concerns that would otherwise result if a small number of voters in a precinct were registered to vote in a city or district.
The proposal moves 235 voters to new polling places. Another 679 voters would change precincts without requiring a new polling place.
The Board of Registration and Elections voted to recommend these changes to the Governing Authority on May 11, 2023 and June 8, 2023.
The Department of Voter Registration and Elections published notice of the proposed changes in the County legal organ on June 15, 2023 as required by law.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This agenda item does not have any fiscal impact on the County.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
Approve the election precinct boundary changes set forth in the attachments hereto as recommended by the Board of Registration and Elections on May 11, 2023 and June 8, 2023.
