PURPOSE:
To adopt the DeKalb County Library Landscape Transition Plan and requesting the DeKalb County Administration to execute the Plan.
NEED/IMPACT:
Landscaping is a form of earth stewardship and has the opportunity to be a strategy towards climate resiliency through proper landscape installation and maintenance strategies that build soil, mitigate flooding, increase biodiversity, reduce heat island effect, sequester carbon, encourage clean air, and provide beauty. Several library landscapes in DeKalb County have been used as pilot sites since 2021 for the climate resilient landscape model. These pilot locations have opened up opportunities for outdoor classrooms, environmental education, additional greenspace, and green landscaping jobs. There is a need to expand this paradigm to all libraries in DeKalb County to ensure all residents have the opportunity to experience and benefit from these landscapes as well as thoughtfully implement maintenance strategies that ensures longevity, growth, and health of the landscape.

Recommended Action
To approve the resolution and authorize the Chief Executive Officer or her designee to execute all necessary documents.
