PURPOSE:

Application of the Director of the Department of Planning & Sustainability to amend Chapter 4 (Alcoholic Beverages) of the Code of DeKalb County, Georgia, as revised 1988, to ensure alignment with Georgia statutes, remove outdated provisions, remove redundant language, update section titles, and to revise applicable procedures.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The Department of Planning and Sustainability is requesting approval to amend Chapter 4 (Alcoholic Beverages) of the DeKalb County Code of Ordinances, originally revised in 1988. The proposed amendments are necessary to align the ordinance with current Georgia statutes, eliminate outdated or redundant language, update section titles, and revise applicable procedures. As part of the County’s Municode system, which is fully accessible to the public, Chapter 4 serves as a key reference for residents, business owners and stakeholders. Ensuring this information is accurate and up to date is critical for transparency, legal compliance, and effective public engagement. This amendment must be approved prior to October 1st, which marks the beginning of the alcohol license renewal season.
