PURPOSE:
A District 6 appropriation of $250,000 from America Rescue Plan (ARP) grant funds will focus on District 6 community green space improvements designed to build stronger neighborhoods and communities within qualified census tracks to address health disparities and the social determinants of health.

NEED/IMPACT:
This District 6 ARP appropriation will support funding community green space improvements at DeKalb County Libraries and areas within qualified District 6 census tracts which respond to the extended health crisis and long-term commitment to outdoor spaces:
1. To improve spaces in areas that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. This provision refers to projects in a "Qualified Census Tract" and can include improving park space that will benefit the health and wellness of these communities.
2. Maintenance and upkeep issues because of the increased use parks saw during the pandemic. Addressing these issues are allowable expenses under the ARP.
These investments in parks, public plazas, and other public outdoor recreation spaces aide in the responsive needs of disproportionately impacted District 6 communities by promoting healthier living environments and outdoor recreation and socialization to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 which continue to mutate to new, contagious, and dangerous variants.
