PURPOSE:

To consider approval of contract not to exceed $125,000 to provide occupational training and pre-apprenticeship opportunities for Juvenile Court’s YouthBuild program for youth in DeKalb County.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

In June 2021, The U.S. Department of Labor-Employment and Training Administration (DOL-ETA) awarded and the Board of Commissioner’s approved a grant for DeKalb County Juvenile Court in the amount of $949,811 to administer the YouthBuild program.  The program is a community-based pre-apprenticeship program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24.

This contract will provide the occupational training and pre-apprenticeship portion for youth enrolled in Juvenile Court’s YouthBuild program. Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA) provides training created to assist students acquire industry-certified credentials and skills that will translate into skilled labor in the construction industry. 

The grant period for the contract is July 1, 2021-October 31, 2024. 

 

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The grant awarded from the U.S. Department of Labor-Employment and Training Administration for the YouthBuild grant will provide funding for the contract.  No cost will be incurred by the county. 

 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the contract for Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA); 1940 The Exchange SE Ste 200, Atlanta, GA 30039; Amount not to Exceed $125,000; and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute the contract and all associated documents.
