PURPOSE:
The purpose of this Agenda Item is to allocate an amount not to exceed $39,000 of the District 7 Pleasantdale Park proceeds to the following entities: Engraving House (not to exceed $33,500) & Roots Down (not to exceed $5,500), contributed towards sculptured art and edible landscaping within a sector of Ellenwood Park.


NEED/IMPACT:
Enhancing Ellenwood Park located on River Rd in the County Line-Ellenwood area and incorporating an honorary element for Dr. Alice M. White Bussey is a meaningful tribute to a trailblazing leader whose legacy continues to blossom throughout DeKalb County. As a sixth-generation resident and visionary advocate, Dr. Bussey helped shape the community's cultural and civic landscape and honoring her within the park affirms the county's commitment to preserving local history and uplifting those who paved the way. The integration of art and edible landscaping not only beautifies the space for the community's enjoyment however, it also symbolically reflects how Dr. Bussey is still "pollinating" ideas and "producing fruit" through inspiration, education, and nourishment-both literal and figurative-for future generations. This living tribute transforms the park into a space of growth, connection, and legacy, reinforcing the county's values of equity, sustainability, and intergenerational unity.
