PURPOSE:
A Resolution Of The Board Of Commissioners Of DeKalb County, Georgia To Establish A Formal Process For Appointing A Commissioner To The DeKalb County Continuum Of Care (Coc) Governance Board
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County participates in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Continuum of Care (CoC) Program as GA-508 DeKalb County CoC, which provides critical funding for housing and services to prevent and end homelessness in DeKalb County. HUD encourages the inclusion of local elected officials on CoC governance bodies, and the participation of an elected representative can strengthen the competitiveness of CoC funding applications and support stronger alignment between County policy and CoC priorities. At a recent Committee of the Whole meeting, the Director of Community Development, Allen Mitchell, advised the Board of Commissioners that the CoC intends to amend its governance structure and bylaws to expand the CoC Governance Board and to add additional seats, including a seat designated for a local elected official.
