PURPOSE:
The purpose of this agenda item is to allocate $336,827.11 to cover replacing water lines for the Flintstone Intersection Project in which DeKalb County partnered with the City of Tucker to complete on behalf of the County.
NEED/IMPACT:
The City of Tucker made improvements at Flintstone Drive and Hugh Howell Road (“the Flintstone Intersection Project”) as part of the construction of the new Smoke Rise elementary School. During construction of the school, a cement water pipe was discovered to be decaying rapidly and was in no condition to allow the school to connect. The Department of Watershed Management deemed it mandatory to replace the cement pipe quickly, as to not delay the opening of newly constructed Smoke Rise Elementary School for the upcoming school year and to prevent an area outage that would be caused by a failed water main. The improvements allowed for Smoke Rise Elementary School to safely connect to the water system in time for the 2021 school year. The County, through its Department of Watershed Management determined the portions of the water lines to be replaced (the “Work”). The work was completed by the city utilizing the onsite excavation team.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The County's contribution is not anticipated to exceed $336,827.11
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
