PURPOSE:
To consider approval of the attached resolution declaring real property in unincorporated DeKalb County as surplus and authorizing for sale to the highest bidder.

NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department has conducted a comprehensive assessment of its operational needs and has determined that Fire Station #7 located at 1786 Derrill Drive should be considered surplus property.

To ensure the county's real estate assets are efficiently managed, the department recommends the property to be declared surplus and sold to the highest and best bidder in accordance with O.C.G.A. ? 36-9-3, which governs the sale of county-owned real property. Approval of this request will allow the county to advertise the property for sale in compliance with legal requirements and facilitate its productive reuse.

Staff from user departments have reviewed the property and have determined that it is in the best interest of the public to declare the property as surplus and advertised for sale to the highest and best bidder after due notice has been given through the established Invitation to Bid process managed by the DeKalb County Purchasing and Contracting Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The sale of the surplus fire station property is expected to generate revenue for the county and realize cost savings by eliminating ongoing maintenance and operational expenses for the facility.

If sold to a private entity, the property may also contribute to the county's tax base in the future.
