PURPOSE:

To consider acceptance of the 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $94,772.72 and match funds of 10% in the amount of $9,477.28 for a grand total of $104,250.00.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters grant program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighter personnel against fire and fire-related hazards. This grant award will fund specialized training for elevator extrication and certifications for the International Association of Fire Fighters Peer Fitness Trainers. Elevator extrication training enhances DeKalb Fire Rescue’s capability to safely and effectively rescue individuals from stalled elevators. Moreover, IAFF Peer Fitness Trainer certification builds upon prior AFG Health and Wellness grants, underscoring DeKalb Fire Rescue’s ongoing commitment to supporting its employees' overall well-being and fitness.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The grant requires a 10% match totaling $9,477.28.
