PURPOSE:
The Purpose of this Agenda Item is to provide funding for the 100 Black Men of DeKalb to provide educational programming for DeKalb youth.
NEED/IMPACT:
The educational programming offered by 100 Black Men of DeKalb significantly enhances the well-being and future prospects of youth across the DeKalb region by providing mentorship, academic support, leadership development, and college readiness resources. Through its flagship Leadership Academy, the organization empowers students-particularly those from underserved communities-with tools to succeed in school and beyond, boasting a 97% college matriculation rate among participants. These initiatives not only foster individual achievement but also strengthen families, reduce disparities, and cultivate a pipeline of engaged, prepared leaders who contribute to the long-term vitality and equity of DeKalb County.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An Amount not to exceed $50,000 of the District 7 Reserve for Appropriation, contributed towards educational programming hosted through the 100 Black Men of DeKalb.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve an allocation not to exceed $50,000 of the District 7 Reserve for Appropriation for educational programming and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
