PURPOSE:
Record the appointment of Shoshana Cohen Ben-Yoar to Post 6 of the DeKalb County Women's Commission as the Super District 6 Appointee

NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners adopted 2025-1606, an ordinance for the establishment of the DeKalb County Women's Commission to provide a formal, coordinated structure for addressing the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women in DeKalb County. This commission will centralize research, advocacy, and recommendations, ensuring women's voices are represented in county policy and program decisions. By advising the Board, CEO, and departments on issues such as health disparities, wage equity, safety, and access to resources, the commission will strengthen existing programs, identify gaps, and foster collaboration across agencies - thereby sustaining and enhancing the County's capacity to promote gender equity and community well-being.

Shoshana Cohen Ben-Yoar is a Super District 6 resident and for over 20 years has been dedicated to assisting non-profits, many serving women and girls in DeKalb County, to raise funding to enable them to address urgent community needs and sustain and grow services for the most vulnerable members of our community. Working daily alongside the thought leaders serving the needs of women and girls provides a unique lens and deep understanding of both the ongoing and emerging needs within the specific focus areas of the commission: health equity, employment, safety, and quality of life.

This item is submitted by Commissioner Terry for recording in the minutes.
