PURPOSE:
To appropriate $5,000 from the 2024 Super District 6 Reserve for Appropriation combined with equal contribution from a District 6 appropriation to the Latin American Association (LAA). This allocation will support the LAA's mission to empower Latinos to adapt, integrate and thrive. The funding will support LAA's annual operations, and its one-stop shop service model that looks to bring the American dream to life by providing the resources, support and community that Latinos need to embark on their journey of prosperity.
NEED/IMPACT:
Founded in 1972, the LAA has grown over the past four decades to become the region's leading agency representing Georgia's Latino issues. The LAA offers direct services that helps Latino individuals assimilate and become contributing members of Georgia's community. The LAA achieves its mission through five (5) focus areas: Civic Engagement & Advocacy, Economic Empowerment, Youth Services, Family Stabilization & Well-Being, and Immigration Services. Each focus area includes a targeted menu of direct services, large-scale events and advocacy to realize significant community impact and affect systems level change.
This is a joint reserve for appropriations allocation effort with District 2.
