2022 Summer Food Service Program
Body
Information Contact: Chuck O. Ellis, Director RPCA
Phone Number: 404-371-2475
PURPOSE:
To authorize the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department to apply for and receive funding from the State of Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning Happy Helpings Program for the implementation of the 2022 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The RPCA Department will provide breakfast and lunch to its summer day campers at nine DeKalb County facilities. The meals will be prepared by the DeKalb County School District as outlined in the attached agreement. The program is scheduled to run from June 6, 2022 to July 22, 2022.
NEED/IMPACT:
During the school year, many children receive free and reduced meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). When school recesses for the summer, these children are at risk of hunger. The 2022 Summer Food Service Program will address this concern by providing two meals a day for those in need at the DeKalb County summer camps and other agencies in the DeKalb County communities.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Fiscal Year 2022 funding to be reimbursed by State of Georgia. The County anticipates the 2022 program to not exceed $446,484.04.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To authorize the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department to apply for and receive funding from the State of Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning Happy Helpings Program for the implementation of the 2022 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP); and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents to complete the program.
