PURPOSE:
?To consider approving the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) award from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA); and
?To consider accepting $63,000 from the Georgia Office of Homeland Security and appropriating that amount
to the Grant Fund along with a match amount of $21,000 (04410.611250.100) for spending in compliance
with the grantor's requirements; and
?To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute the necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County is required to develop a multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan in order for the County to
comprehend its vulnerability to natural and man-made hazards, and the actions needed to reduce or eliminate
those risks. The plan is vital to the protection, health, safety, and welfare of its citizens as well as its visitors.

DeKalb County can only receive mitigation funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) if it has a mitigation plan in place at the time of submitting a proposal. DeKalb County and its
municipal governments are required to maintain a Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan that fulfills the Federal
requirements of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
