PURPOSE:

Remove glass from the current residential single-stream recycling program

NEED/IMPACT:

Glass, currently mixed in with residents’ curbside single-stream recycling contaminates other recyclable materials.

The Sanitation Division has proposed a standalone glass recycling program; providing avid glass recyclers an alternative to placing glass in with their curbside single-stream recycling material. This program would preserve the integrity of glass, making it a much more valuable recyclable material, and reiterate the county’s commitment to environmental sustainability, while advancing the Division’s recycling-related goals.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Less contamination for the recycling loads. The per ton price with the processor will remain the same.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
