PURPOSE:
The purpose of this agenda item is to allocate funding to DeKalb County Summer Youth Program for the purposes of providing a five-week summer program, which runs from June 3 to July 5, will provide career development, education enrichment and summer income for 700 youth, ages 14 to 24, who will be paid $10 per hour for up to 20 hours per week while learning online.
Academy interns may also earn credentialing credits in industries such as business technology, game design, website design, healthcare and education, while out-of-school youth will be provided General Equivalency Diploma (GED) instruction and counseling.
NEED/IMPACT:
As the Summer months approach, it is imperative to provide programming for students to close achievement gaps, offer counseling and support to youth and their parents, and provide a positive alternative career experience during the summer months for youth of DeKalb County.
