PURPOSE:
To Allocate A Total Of $49,000 To Retaaza To Support Subsidized Food Purchases For The DeKalb Fresh Mobile Market And Additional Food Distribution Locations As Well As Reallocate The $25,000 Originally Allocated To MARTA for the MARTA Market Program Via Agenda Item 2025-1628 To Retaaza To Run The MARTA Market Program

NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County has begun a partnership with Retaaza to implement a DeKalb Fresh Mobile Market, a sprinter van that is able to travel across DeKalb County supplying fresh produce available for purchase with options for affordable pricing. This additional funding will provide additional food subsidies in the form of $10 credits as well as provide food distribution opportunities at additional locations. This is incredibly important given the possibility of greater need throughout the county due to uncertainty with a recent previous federal government shut down as well as layoffs and furloughs across the job market.

Additionally, the Board of Commissioners previously approved Agenda Item 2025-1628 allocating $25,000 to MARTA for the MARTA Market Program conducted by Retaaza. It has been shared allocating funds directly to Retaaza may be best to continue the markets for 2.5 months during half of December - February. This does not change the purpose of the funding, just who receives the money directly to execute...
