Sanitation Division Annual Residential Services Rate Increase

PURPOSE:
To approve Sanitation’s proposal to increase the division’s annual sanitation residential services rates from $265 to $315 and to consider FY24 for the effective date.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Sanitation Division’s annual assessment fee for residential services has not been increased in 20 years and the current service rates are the lowest in the region. Despite continued residential growth in DeKalb county, the division has continued to provide weekly residential collection services: garbage, yard debris and recycling without a reduction in service
FISCAL IMPACT:
Sanitation has exhausted its reserves and requires additional funds to sustain the comprehensive solid waste management operations (salaries, increased fuel costs & purchase/maintenance of equipment) and to complete and maintain the necessary capital investments/projects. The proposed fee increase will increase Sanitation’s revenue by $8.5M for FY24.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the proposed fee increases effective FY24, and to authorize the Chief of Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
