PURPOSE:
To consider accepting and appropriating up to $600,000 from the Georgia Department of Transportation for design of pedestrian improvements on Pleasantdale Road into a new CIP account;
To consider reserving $150,000 of SPLOST funds from line 1B - Federal and State Transportation project Match Funds for Transportation Purposes; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of this project.
NEED/IMPACT:
DeKalb County has been awarded $600,000 of Congressionally Directed Spending for pedestrian improvements along Pleasantdale Road from I-85 to Chamblee-Tucker Road. The roadway is currently five lanes with sidewalks close to the roadway. Possible measures that will be considered to make the roadway more pedestrian friendly including a road diet, wider sidewalks, a multi-use trail, and additional protected crossings.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The local match of $150,000 is proposed to be funded from SPLOST line 1B. Additional Federal funds will be sought for the right-of-way and construction phases of the project. Additional matching funds will be needed for those phases.
