PURPOSE:
A resolution of The DeKalb County Board Of Commissioners concerning public safety, the protection of civil rights, and the withdrawal of federal tactical Immigration Enforcement Teams From DeKalb County.
NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners is the legislative and policy-making body of DeKalb County, charged with protecting the safety and welfare of its residents. This item formally condemns the reckless use of force by ICE agents in the killing of Renee Nicole Good and stands in solidarity with those seeking justice and transparency. This item also expresses the Sense of the Board that the presence of "Operation Metro Surge" and similar tactical federal immigration enforcement teams in DeKalb County is unwanted, unnecessary, and a threat to the public peace. Further, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners finds aggressive, uncoordinated federal tactical operations undermine the foundation of community trust essential for local law enforcement to function effectively.
FISCAL IMPACT:
