PURPOSE:
A resolution of The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners concerning public safety, the protection of civil rights, and the withdrawal of federal tactical Immigration Enforcement Teams From DeKalb County.
NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners is the legislative and policy-making body of DeKalb County, charged with protecting the safety and welfare of its residents. This item formally condemns the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti and rejects the premise that militarized "surges" into residential areas lead to a safer community. This agenda item issues a formal demand to the Department of Homeland Security and ICE to immediately cease all tactical enforcement operations within DeKalb County residential areas and declares that these federal units are no longer welcome in our community.
