PURPOSE:

To Appropriate $20,000 from the District 2 Reserve for Appropriation to the South Carolina State University Alumni Association for the Purpose of Providing College Scholarships to DeKalb County residents.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

Allocating funding to the South Carolina State University Alumni Association to provide scholarships for DeKalb County residents is a strategic investment in educational equity, workforce development, and community empowerment. As an HBCU, South Carolina State University has a proven record of supporting underrepresented and first-generation students, helping them succeed academically and return to their communities as skilled professionals and leaders. Partnering with the alumni association ensures responsible stewardship of funds and strengthens a pipeline of talent back into DeKalb, aligning with the county's goals of advancing diversity, educational access, and long-term socioeconomic growth.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

An amount not to exceed $20,000 to the Atlanta Chapter of the South Carolina National Alumni Association from Board of Commissioners District 2 2025 Reserve for Appropriation (00202.579002.100.0000.0000).

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the allocation of $20,000 and authorize the Chief Executive Officer or her designee to execute all necessary documents.
