PURPOSE:
To authorize and approve the use of SPLOST I, Category 2A funding, in an amount not to exceed $150,000.00 to explore the initial concept, cost feasibility, and preliminary design for a proposed Police Special Operations / Evidence Storage facility on vacant, County-owned property located near the Memorial Drive and I-285 interchange. The DeKalb County Police Department will work with the Purchasing Department to utilize the appropriate on-call vendors to evaluate the initial concept, cost, and preliminary design of the proposed facility.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Bobby Burgess Building has served for more than 50 years as a multi-department facility supporting Police Special Operations, Evidence Storage, and other County user departments. Due to the age and condition of the facility, significant renovation or eventual removal from service may be necessary. This authorization will all the County to evaluate the feasibility of developing a new Police Special Operations/Evident Storage facility. The proposed concept would provide an opportunity to rehabilitate a known County brownfield while creating a centralized public safety facility that maintains critical proximity to the DeKalb County Police Department, District Attorney’s Office, and the DeKalb County Jail.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding will be used from the SPLOST I – Category 2G in an amount not to exceed $150,000.00.
