Phone Number: 404-371-2844
PURPOSE:
To allocate $100,000 from District 1 reserved funds to support District 1 initiatives and other county programs.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Top End Transit Committee has been working with Kimley Horne to design plans appropriate for leveraging the GDOT I-285 Top End Express Lanes Project. The goal is to bring Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) with appropriate stations, parking, and access, to the region. All planning is being executed within the framework of the ATL Link and Federal scoring models. This planning has been presented to the ATL Link Board and has received enthusiastic support.
In conjunction with that planning, the Committee put out an RFP in February 2020 for a Top End Trails Master Plan along the route of the Express Lanes Project, noting that significant savings could be realized if a multi-use trails project were to be incorporated into the project’s ROW acquisition and construction. Trail boundaries mirror the GDOT project, extending from Paces Ferry Road to SR 400 on the West side; from Henderson Road to SR 400 on the east side; and north from SR 400 from the Glenridge Connector to the North Springs MARTA Station.
Members of the Top End Committee include Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, Tucker, Chamblee/Doraville CID, Cumberland CID, Perimeter CID, and Tucker/Northlake CID.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Monies will be drawn from District 1 SPLOST funds reserved for appropriation by district commissioner.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
