PURPOSE:

To approve a resolution to ensure that the County’s judges receive the same benefits as the judges of the Superior Court of the DeKalb Judicial Circuit, County employees, and judges in other counties.

NEED/IMPACT:

The County has started providing reimbursement of mandatory retirement payments to the judges of the Superior Court of the DeKalb Judicial Circuit and it is the desire of the Board to provide reimbursement of mandatory retirement payments to the judges of the State Court of DeKalb County, Magistrate Court of DeKalb County, and Probate Court of DeKalb County who are county-level judicial officers.

This resolution, introduced as the Chair of Finance and Budget, ensures that the County’s judges receive not only reimbursement for mandatory retirement contributions, but also the same benefits as the Superior Court judges within DeKalb County, County employees, and judges in other counties. The judges of the Juvenile Court of DeKalb County are included in the provision that adds longevity pay as a benefit for County judges

FISCAL IMPACT:

Fiscal impact to DeKalb County at this time is estimated at $536,248,00 (see attachment)

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve this resolution that ensures all County judges receive the same reimbursement for mandatory retirement contributions and benefit structure that is applicable to other judges within DeKalb County, County employees, and judges in other counties.
