PURPOSE:

To consider accepting the Year 2023 award of $121,744 from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States, and to compensate Justice Benefits, Inc. (JBI) in the amount of $18,261.60 from the proceeds of the award.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The U.S. Department of Justice, through the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), has awarded $121,744 to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States.

 

JBI does the research, gathers and analyzes the data, and completes all necessary information to be included in the application.  The information is then returned to the Sheriff’s Office for Federal submission via the Internet through the Justice Department’s Grant Management System (GMS).

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Accept the Year 2023 award of $121,744 from the U.S. Department of Justice to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating criminals who may or may not be citizens of the United States, and to compensate Justice Benefits, Inc., in the amount of $18,261.60, from the proceeds of the award.  Appropriate $121,744 to the Grant Fund.  To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
