PURPOSE:
To Appropriate $20,000 from the 2024 District 6 Youth Reserve for Appropriation for the Fruitful Community Foundation's Fall 2024/Spring 2025 critical to stabilizing and maximizing fall and spring planting and maintenance.

NEED/IMPACT:
Since 2021, Commissioner Terry has supported The Fruitful Communities, Fruitful Community Foundation and Jane Goodall Institute Initiatives, resulting in successful DeKalb County initiatives for county-wide site productive urban landscape activations. This partnership with other local organizations and DeKalb County Facilities Management has progressed toward complete overhauls to landscaping around several County libraries, eliminating all grass and installing food forests and pollinator gardens with benches and tables for community enjoyment. This support has importantly launched and strengthened the GreenHive Leadership Program, which is now led by youth GreenHive alumni for youth education, advocacy, and encouraging engagement to empower ways to mitigate sustainability and climate change for those who will continue this fight in the future.
Last Fall 2023-0088 a D6 Youth Reserves was approved for $35K to continue support for the Fruitful Libraries programs. This District 6 2024 scope of work will support the critical need for continuing community education and workforce development programming to catalyze the necessary changes to our stewardship of public lands.
