A Resolution of the Governing Authority of DeKalb County, Georgia in Support of the Locally Preferred Alternative for the MARTA I-20 Transit Initiative
Body
Information Contact: Commissioner Larry Johnson
Phone Number: 404-371-2425
PURPOSE:
To consider adopting a resolution in support of implementing the Locally Preferred Alternative for the MARTA I-20 East Transit Initiative which proposes heavy rail transit extending from the Indian Creek MARTA Station to the Mall at Stonecrest.
NEED/IMPACT:
Extension of heavy rail transit out I-20 has long been proposed. MARTA’s I-20 East Transit Initiative established heavy rail transit as the locally preferred alternative. An affirmation of the county’s support will aid in seeking funding to implement the locally preferred alternative. Potential funding sources include Surface Transportation Block Grant Funds for Georgia in the new federal infrastructure law, several federal discretionary grant programs, and Capital Investment Grants from the Federal Transit Administration. Low interest federal loans are also available through the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Fiscal impact will be dependent on future Federal, state, and MARTA funding scenarios.
