To consider approving an agreement with Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) in an amount not to exceed $190,000 in CDBG-CV funding for Kitchen Renovation Work at the Homeless Shelter.
Body
Information Contact: Allen Mitchell, Director
Phone Number: (404) 969-9921
PURPOSE:
In order to accomplish the kitchen renovation work at the Homeless Shelter, CDBG-CV funds will leverage $62,800 in State funding procured by the agency and shall not exceed $190,000. Funding will be used to complete kitchen renovation work at the homeless shelter that houses women and children located in the City of Decatur. Renovation will include but not be limited to, removing existing drywall and equipment, installing new plumbing, HVAC, electrical wiring, installation of new flooring, ceiling, cabinets, and countertops.
NEED/IMPACT:
This renovation is critical as DCM’s Homeless needs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have expanded rapidly. The pandemic exposed the need for space to allow for social distancing; and for meals to be prepared in-house because the shelter could no longer rely on bringing in volunteers from the outside to serve the meals. An updated kitchen will allow for meals to be prepared in-house with safe appropriate equipment, airflow, an adequate space for serving shelter residents.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No Cost to the County.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents to contract with Decatur Cooperative Ministry in an amount not to exceed $190,000 in CDBG-CV funding for Kitchen Renovation work at the Homeless Shelter located in the City of Decatur.
