PURPOSE:
To consider accepting and appropriating up to $400,000 from the Georgia Department of Transportation for design of traffic signal operations and technology improvements into a new CIP account;
To consider reserving $100,000 of SPLOST funds from line 1B - Federal and State Transportation project Matching Funds for Transportation Purposes; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of this project.
NEED/IMPACT:
On November 16, 2021, the Board of Commissioners authorized an application for federal funds for multiple transportation projects including a project for traffic signal operations and technology upgrades at select locations throughout unincorporated DeKalb County. Funding for the preliminary engineering phase was approved by the Atlanta Regional Commission. These funds will be managed by the Georgia Department of Transportation and will be distributed to DeKalb County on a reimbursable basis.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The local match of $100,000 is proposed to be funded from SPLOST line 1B. Future matching funds will be
needed for the construction phase. The current ARC Transportation Improvement Program includes $1.6 million in federal funding for the construction phase.
