PURPOSE:

To amend the code of DeKalb County, Georgia, Chapter 15- Licenses, Permits, and Miscellaneous Regulations, Article XV. Non-Discrimination

NEED/IMPACT:

This ordinance revision is needed to ensure that all residents of DeKalb County have equal access to housing free from unlawful discrimination and to provide a meaningful local process for addressing housing discrimination when it occurs. While federal and state fair housing laws establish important protections, many residents face barriers to pursuing complaints through those systems. By expanding the County's existing Non-Discrimination Ordinance to include housing, DeKalb County will strengthen local enforcement, promote prompt resolution of complaints, increase accountability, and affirm its commitment to equal opportunity. Fair housing protections help preserve stable neighborhoods, expand housing choice, support economic mobility, and ensure that every resident has the opportunity to live, work, and thrive in a community free from discrimination.

FISCAL IMPACT:

TBD

RECOMMENDATION:
