PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where "The chief executive shall nominate a person to the commission," CEO Thurmond is nominating Deborah A. Jackson for reappointment to the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees. This is a four-year term that will begin January 1, 2024 and continue through December 31, 2027.
NEED/IMPACT:
The operation of the DeKalb County Public Library is legally vested in the Board of Trustees under the provision of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Title 20, Chapter 5, Article 40. Per the Constitution and By-Laws of the DeKalb County Public Library eight (8) county appointees from the public at-large serve on the Board of Trustees along with two municipal appointees, the CEO and the Executive Assistant to the CEO. Appointees typically serve four (4) year terms and can be reappointed for a total of three (3) consecutive terms.
Ms. Jackson is an attorney by trade and has served as Mayor of Lithonia for the past eight years. Currently she serves as an instructor in the African American Studies Department at Georgia State University and is President of DAJ Associates, LLC, a small firm that specializes in community and economic development. She has served on several boards such as the Georgia Municipal Association, the DeKalb Lawyers Association and Arabia Mountain Heritage Alliance. Ms. Jackson lives in Lithonia and is a member of the Friends of the Lithonia Library and will continue to be an asset to the DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees.
