PURPOSE:
To allocate $150,000.00 of District 6 ARPA funds to Trust for Public Land Community Schoolyards for the development of community schoolyards, also known as green schoolyards, to serve as nature hubs for teachers, students and communities with outdoor play, recreation, learning features. This District 6 appropriation will be earmarked to support Columbia Elementary School, located at 3230 Columbia Woods Dr, Decatur, GA 30032 which is a feeder for District 6 students.
NEED/IMPACT:
Redesigning schoolyards for after hours and on weekends provides access to greenspace and outdoor activities ultimately having a transformational whole health impact on children, adults and families Schoolyards can include outdoor classrooms, gardens, stormwater capture, traditional playground equipment, nature play areas, trails, trees, water features, and more. See budget and proposal attached. This agenda item mirrors the BOC approved D2 2024-0188 and D4 2024-0127 ARPA funding requests currently being vetted and processed though the DeKalb ARP Work Group.
