PURPOSE:
In February 2022 an agenda item was approved by the Board of Commission for District 4 and 6 to support the 2022 MicroLife Institute Design Studio which targeted the shared Memorial Drive-I 285 to Stone Mountain.
This agenda item is to appropriate reserve for appropriation funds from District 6 for continued shared support of the Design Studio collaboration focusing this time on the greater Scottdale and Scottdale Overlay District.
NEED/IMPACT:
Scottdale is conveniently located just inside Hwy 285 only minutes from two other major thoroughfares, Hwy 20 and Hwy 85, which provide easy access to all parts of metro-Atlanta. Scottdale is just north of Avondale Estates only minutes to downtown Decatur, The CDC and Emory University. Living in Scottdale offers residents an urban suburban mix feel.
This Design Studio project brings together urban design, architecture with consideration of the "Green New Deal", and high-performance building students to collaborate on producing urban design proposals and modeling their performance.
Georgia Tech School of Architecture students will reimagine the town of Scottdale through sustainable and resilient redevelopment incorporating high performance urbanist principals.
